Due to a lack of facilities, the issue of students illegally parking in the area has been ongoing.

Students living in a planned large-scale development in the Groody area of Castletroy must be told their cars are not welcome.

That's according to Fine Gael Councillor Peter Doyle, who says plans for 1400 student beds have the potential to bring gridlock to the area.

The development is being delivered by Whitebox, having received planning earlier this year.

However, the plans show that it will have just 35 parking spaces.

Speaking to Live95 News, Councillor Doyle said he fears parking issues spilling out to neighbouring estates.

He shared, "This is a heightened concern.

"The car parks in UL are full on many days.

"I was down there recently, and I couldn't park on campus; I had to walk down.

"This has to be addressed.

"The students in this residence need to be clearly told there are no car park facilities in Castletroy for them, and we will not be tolerating students parking in residential estates on the Groody Road or elsewhere.

"The residents have put up with enough."
