Four of Limerick City and County Council's projects have been shortlisted in the 2025 Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards.

The shortlisted Limerick projects for 2025 are: Co-Plan: Keeping Limerick On Track – Local Authority Innovation, Northside Skills Fair – Promoting Economic Development, Limerick Going for Gold - Environment Improvement Grant & Competition – Supporting Sustainable Communities Limerick Greenway – Embrace the Unexpected – Supporting Tourism.
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, welcomed the recognition of the projects, saying: “These nominations are a powerful reflection of the partnerships that drive progress and deliver More for Limerick. From community-led environmental initiatives to inclusive employment fairs and transformative tourism projects, each shortlisted entry shows how collaboration between Limerick City and County Council, Limerick communities and Limerick people is delivering real improvements across our city and county.”
Príomh Chomhairleoir, Cllr Catherine Slattery, added: “Whether it’s supporting local volunteers through Going for Gold, connecting people to opportunities at the Northside Skills Fair, or showcasing our heritage through the Limerick Greenway, these projects are about people working together to make Limerick better for everyone. I’m delighted to see that work recognised nationally.”
Director General of Limerick City and County Council, Dr Pat Daly, commented: “The success of all four shortlisted projects is rooted in strong collaboration with communities, businesses, and regional partners, ensuring that our work is responsive, inclusive, and impactful. It’s rewarding to see Co-Plan recognised in this year’s shortlist. This new and innovative system is transforming how we track progress of key projects that benefit all in Limerick.”
Co-Plan is Limerick City and County Council’s innovative new IT system designed to enhance how strategic projects are planned and delivered across the organisation. It serves as a central tracker for key initiatives, ensuring transparency, alignment, and progress across departments.
Northside Skills Fair is part of the Council’s Outreach to Employment Programme, developed in partnership with LCETB, TUS, and LEDP. Held at the Northside Youth Space in Ballynanty, the fair connects the local and wider community with employers, educational bodies, and training agencies. It also promotes the apprenticeship and career pathways available to residents living in Regeneration areas.
Limerick Going for Gold is a long-standing collaboration between Limerick City and County Council and the JP McManus Charitable Foundation. The initiative supports environmental improvement works by community groups, residents’ associations, and Tidy Towns organisations, helping make Limerick a cleaner, greener place to live.
Limerick Greenway – Embrace the Unexpected is the Council’s largest outdoor tourism project to date. Following the old Limerick to Kerry railway line, Limerick Greenway links historic towns and scenic landscapes across West Limerick. It offers family-friendly walking and cycling routes, cultural heritage experiences, and nature-based attractions like Tullig Wood and Barnagh.
The Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards ceremony will take place in Dublin on Thursday, 27th November.
