Guns and drugs seized in Charleville after car stopped at service station

Two men have been arrested.

Gardaí have seized three firearms, ammunition, and a quantity of drugs following an operation in County Cork.

The seizures were made after officers stopped a vehicle at a service station in Charleville late on Wednesday night.

At approximately 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Gardaí on patrol from Charleville Garda Station stopped a car at a local service station.

During a search of the vehicle, Gardaí found and seized three firearms and ammunition.

Approximately €800 worth of suspected diamorphine was also located in the vehicle.

The two occupants, both men in their 30s and 40s, were arrested at the scene.

They were taken to a Garda Station in County Cork where they are currently being detained under the provisions of Section 30 of Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

As part of the ongoing investigation, follow-up searches were conducted at a number of domestic residences in County Cork on Thursday, August 21st. T

hese searches resulted in the seizure of further ammunition.

All seized firearms will be subject to ballistic and forensic testing. T

he suspected drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

Investigations are ongoing.
