Gardaí are treating it as a very serious matter.
A serious investigation is underway in Dromcollogher following the theft of a firearm from a premises between December 11th and 12th.
Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, Crime Prevention Officer with Henry Street Garda Station, is emphasising the severity of the incident, noting the potential for stolen firearms to be used in criminal activity.
"This is a serious matter, as any stolen firearm has the potential to be used in criminal activity," said Sergeant O'Halloran.
Gardaí in Newcastle West are leading the investigation and have reminded licensed holders of their legal storage requirements:

One or two firearms: Use trigger locks, disassemble the weapon, and store parts separately.

Three or more firearms: Must be stored in a locked gun safe bolted to a solid wall.
Firearm certificate holders are also reminded to submit renewal forms to their local stations promptly to avoid being in possession of an unlicensed weapon.
