Parkrun is a global organisation that holds timed, free runs to encourage people to get out, exercise and socialise at weekends.

A new weekly tradition for young people has arrived in County Limerick following the successful launch of The Manor Fields junior parkrun in Adare.

In collaboration with presenting partner Vhi, the inaugural event took place on Sunday, December 14th.

The 2km event is now set to take place every Sunday morning at 9:30 AM, providing a free and inclusive space for children aged 4 to 14 to walk, jog, or run.

Community and Wellbeing

Supported by the Limerick Sports Partnership, the event is designed to boost physical activity and community spirit in a safe environment. Unlike the 5km Saturday events, junior parkrun is specifically tailored for younger participants and their families.

Jenny Branigan, Territory Manager for parkrun Ireland, praised the local effort:

“The magic of junior parkrun is in the community it creates. A huge thank you to our local volunteers and Limerick Sports Partnership for bringing this to life at the heart of their community.”

How to Get Involved

Participation is entirely free, though organisers remind families that pre-registration is essential.

  • Register: Visit www.parkrun.ie to receive a scannable barcode.

  • Volunteer: The event relies on local help. To volunteer, contact themanorfieldsjuniors@parkrun.com.

Brighid Smyth of Vhi added that the company is "proud to help people live longer, stronger, healthier lives" by supporting the expansion of the junior network across the country.
