Catherine Connolly will be the 10th president of Ireland.
Catherine Connolly says she will be a president for all, as she was confirmed as president-elect last night.
She secured more than 900,000 votes in the election - a staggering 63.36% of the country's votes.
Her opponent, Fine Gael candidate Heather Humphreys, conceded defeat earlier in the day, securing just over 29%.
Fianna Fáil's Jim Gavin secured just over 7% support, with 103,500 first preference votes, despite withdrawing from the election early.
Just under 13% of votes were spoiled, a significant increase on the figure for previous elections.
Speaking after being declared the winner of the election at Dublin Castle, Ms Connolly said, “I will be a president who listens and reflects and who speaks when it’s necessary.
"I will be a voice for peace, a voice that builds on our policy of neutrality, a voice that articulates the existential threat posed by climate change, and a voice that recognises the tremendous work being done the length and breadth of the country.”
The president-elect will succeed President Michael D. Higgins when she's inaugurated on the 11th of November.
